MUIRFIELD
Many golfers will hope for the chance of playing the famous
Muirfield Course during their stay in Scotland.
The original course was designed by Old Tom Morris and 16
holes built by hand and horse were opened on 3rd May 1891,
with two more added in December. Muirfield was the first course
designed in two loops of nine holes, the first nine going
round the perimeter of the property in a clockwise direction,
the second nine contained inside the first, running anticlockwise,
and since never more than three successive holes run in the
same direction, any wind that blows afflicts the golfer from
all points during a round.
Muirfield is home to the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers
who held their first meeting on Leith Links in 1744.
Unfortunately there are strict rules for playing Muirfield:
- When applying for tee times at Muirfield you are required
to do so in advance Their diary for the following year opens
in November and therefore all applications must be done
in October 2003 in order to get a tee time in 2004.
- When applying we must also include your full names, handicaps
and names of clubs where you hold membership, only then
will the application be accepted.
- If you are successful and are given tee times you are
required to pay in full within 4 weeks of the tee time being
issued.
Please note though that an application 12 month in advance
does not mean a guaranteed teetime but we will try our best
to make your golfing dream come true.
Muirfield cost £122.00 per round
The above cost includes a Travel Scot World booking and
administration fee. The rate is estimated at the moment for
2004. The correct rate will be advised in November 2003 when
the diary for the following year opens.
