As the summer starts to draw to a close, activity is already in full swing in the offices of Kenes International as we begin to approach one of the peaks in our year. August through November are typically very busy congress months and this year will be no exception – the red suits of the Kenes International teams will be seen at 11 congresses held across 4 different continents. Organizing over 25 successful conferences a year is a challenge in itself, and we take great pride in our ability to manage simultaneous congresses. However, we believe that the most important challenge is to maintain our customer focus and high level of satisfaction among the participants. This has always been our main goal. We hope you had a fun and relaxing summer and look forward to continue serving you with the utmost care.

Congress in Focus: 76th Congress of the European Atherosclerosis Society On June 10-13, 2007, Helsinki hosted the 76th Congress of the European Atherosclerosis Society. Founded in 1964, the Society has been devoted to advancing knowledge of the causes, natural history, treatment and prevention of atherosclerosis. The congress allows the Society to reach this important goal. According to Professors Taskinen & Ehnholm, Chairpersons of the 2007 Congress, the aim of this year’s congress was to create a “stimulating atmosphere for exchange of the latest scientific and clinical knowledge in the field of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases”. As Scandinavia is considered at the forefront of research in atherosclerosis, these goals were undeniably achieved: with nearly 2,400 participants from 59 countries, participants were pleased not only with the scientific content but also with the city of Helsinki, which proved to be the perfect destination for this congress! The numbers speak for themselves: a survey conducted found that 99% of the participants found the scientific program was of value and the faculty was interesting, and 93% found the chosen city and venue attractive. Lastly, 90% of participants intended on attending the next congress. The next Congress of the European Atherosclerosis Society will be held in Istanbul, Turkey on April 26-29, 2008. Spotlight on Bangkok, ThailandSince ancient times, Bangkok has hosted visitors from East and West. Over the last few years, however, this tropical kingdom has become known not only to tourists seeking a vacation hotspot but also to the congress community, always on the look out for state-of-the-art congress venues in exciting cities. Indeed, the city is currently listed as being among the top cities in the world for hosting international meetings according to the 2006 ICCA (International Congress & Convention Association) Statistics Report of the International Associations Meetings Market.Bangkok is located in the heart of Southeast Asia on the major air routes served by more than 80 airlines linking Asia with Europe and Africa, Oceania and the Americas. With over 40 hotels, 15,000 hotel rooms and various large venues (including the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center and Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center) it is no surprise the city has become an attractive congress destination. Kenes International first became acquainted with this fascinating city in 2004. Since then, several associations have requested their congresses be held in this region and our staff is looking forward to returning there. On November 15 – 18, 2007, the red suits of our hostesses can be seen in Bangkok for the 5th World Congress of the World Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (WSPID) and on October 25 – 28 2008 again for the 12th Biennial International Gynecologic Cancer Society Meeting (IGCS).
