PREVENTION AWARD IN PSYCHIATRY
The EUROPEAN BMS PREVENTION AWARD IN PSYCHIATRY
has been established to recognize distinguished research
in the field of prevention in psychiatric disorders,
including psychosis, depression, anxiety and dementia.
This award will be granted each year during the AEP Congress.
The winner will be awarded with 20,000 euros for
scientific purposes at his or her institution and is invited to
present the award lecture during the AEP Congress.
Who Can Apply?
- Psychiatrists or scientists working in psychiatric fields and related disciplines such as
public health or pharmacology are eligible.
- The applicants must have developed a tool strategy for early recognition, early
intervention or early treatment, enabling pathways to the manifestation of the
disease that could be identified as a target for early intervention.
- The AWARD scheme is open to citizens of European countries (continent of Europe
including Russia, Turkey and Israel), affiliated with a university, research institution
or hospital, whose research originates primarily in Europe.
Applicants Must
- have a doctorate degree (MD or PhD)
- not have reached 40 years of age in the year of the congress
- be engaged in clinical or basic research, training or teaching activities in the field of
prevention of psychiatric disorders
How to Apply?
Applicants should submit the following:
- a detailed letter of application, pointing out the reasons for candidacy
- a Curriculum Vitae
- at least three (3) published articles representing the work of the applicant
- a summary, not exceeding four (4) double-spaced typed pages explaining the
significance, innovative value and possible consequences for the future of the
achieved work in the field of prevention
- all submitted documents should be written in English
- applications (in 11-fold) should be received before 29 February 2008, at: Association of European Psychiatrists (AEP)

Who Will Select the Nominee?
- The Jury will have the responsibility for selecting the
award recipient.
- The Jury will consist of a panel of eleven (11) people:
– nine (9) academic representatives,
– one (1) representative of an advocacy group and
– one (1) journalist from the medical press.
