Dear Colleagues

On behalf of the Scientific and Local Organizing Committees, I take great pleasure in welcoming you to the 1st European Congress on The Aging Male.

This Congress will inaugurate the European Society of The Aging Male (ESSAM).

ESSAM should become the European Forum which mobilises talent, energy and resources in order to address critical issues to improve men’s health and allow men to age in health and dignity.

In the light of this, the 1st European Congress of The Aging Male will demonstrate that interdisciplinary collaboration in Europe is possible, and can unite all the forces in this relatively new discipline. It truly displays our purpose to comprehensively examine the causes and consequences of male aging and its social and medical repercussions, with the goal being to improve the health status and quality of life in men. This meeting will bring together the most recent data presented by prominent scientists, on the many physical, metabolic and psychological changes experienced by men as they age. We will highlight prostate gland changes, testosterone metabolism, the metabolic syndrome, cardiological changes, osteoporosis, sexuality, mood and cognitive disorders and more.

This Congress is for a broad audience with multifaceted interests such as practitioners with an interest in health in aging, particularly clinicians, researchers from the areas of urology, psychiatry, geriatrics, endocrinology, gynecology and general practice. It will also be of interest to professionals from the social sciences, as well as providers of services and technologies for the aging population.

Warsaw has undergone a huge transformation process. Pre-war architecture exists side by side with modern skyscrapers and cultural activities and are equal to that of many other western cities. The charm of Warsaw's parks and gardens, the wide course of the Vistula river and the rich cultural life of this city is both cosmopolitan and provincial at the same time.

We look forward to welcoming you as one of the Founding Members of ESSAM to Warsaw in June 2007 and hope that this Congress will be a memorable experience for all of you and will strengthen the partnership between intergovernmental, governmental, industrial and voluntary sectors. It will also enable further friendship and scientific collaboration.
