Excursion to Stonehenge and Bath

An early start takes us with west out of London through the Royal
County of Berkshire to the stunning topography of Salisbury Plain and
the world famous megalithic monument of Stonehenge, full of mystery and
wonder.
After our visit we continue west into the rolling Mendip Hills and we
descend from the Wiltshire plains into the magnificent Georgian city of
Bath - now a World Heritage Site. The visit includes the fascinating hot
and cold baths built by the Romans over nineteen centuries ago and Bath
Abbey before driving home via the beautiful Avon Valley.

Oxford, Stratford and the Cotswolds

The tour starts with a journey through the 'picture postcard' scenery
of the Cotswolds, to the ancient university city of Oxford, the "City
of Dreaming Spires". The tour will take us past some of the major
buildings, including those recently featured in many movies and the Inspector
Morse series. An inside visit to Brasenose College is included to glimpse
the lifestyle of its many famous undergraduates. The tour then heads northwest
into the heart of the Cotswolds and to Stratford-upon-Avon, the delightful
market town on the edge of the old Forest of Arden, which was the birthplace
of William Shakespeare. After visiting Shakespear's birthplace and other
monuments, the tour continues past Warwick Castle before returning to
London through many more of the pretty villages of the Cotswolds.

This morning our local guide joins us to show us the very best of
London. We will first see the West End of London, passing by famous sites
such as Piccadilly Circus, Knightsbridge, Hyde Park, Mayfair, Trafalgar
Square, Westminster and many more. We will then stop to see the Changing
of the Guard (every other morning only - alternatively, see the Horse
Guards) take place at Buckingham Palace. We will also see 'The City of
London' to the east with the Bank of England, St. Paul's Cathedral and
the Tower of London, dating back to William the Conqueror (started 1067).
Morning Excursion to Runnymede and Royal Windsor

The route follows the Thames to Runnymede (once an island in the Thames)
where in 1215 King John sealed the famous Magna Carta, before continuing
to Windsor, a short distance away.
After a short orientation tour of the pretty town of Windsor, the will
visit includes the Queen's residence which dominates the town: Windsor
Castle, the largest fully occupied castle in the world where there is
time to explore the precincts, see the Changing of the Guard and visit
the magnificent St. George's Chapel, see the Royal tombs and the State
Apartments, with their fabulous treasures.
