Designated as an historical monument, the Rahmi Koc Car Museum has an impressive industrial history. It was once used as an Ottoman Navy anchor foundry which was constructed on the 12th Century foundations of a Byzantine building during the reign of Sultan Ahmet III.

Partly destroyed by fire in 1984, the building was abandoned until purchased by the Rahmi Koc Museum and Culture Foundation in 1991. Housed in two splendid historical building complexes on the shores of the Golden Horn, at the heart of old Istanbul, the museum possesses a collection of thousands of items including full size ships, aircrafts, and objects created by talented engineers and craftsmen, reflecting their ingenuity and hard work.
