WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF IASP®Dear Colleagues, As President of IASP®, I recommend to you the next Congress of the European Federation of Chapters of IASP® (EFIC) which will take place in Istanbul in September 2006. An excellent scientific programme is being prepared and the social arrangements in the wonderful old city of Istanbul will cater to all interests. The principles upon which IASP®, and therefore EFIC, are founded include the promotion of education and training in the field of pain and the encouragement of research into pain. Those goals have been met regularly by IASP® during the past 30 years and more recently, EFIC has been generating further activity in both areas within Europe. In addition, EFIC has played a major role in the development of awareness of the burden of pain for individuals and society. In this development, EFIC has been joined by IASP®, acting on a global scale, with the overall result that the awareness of the problems posed by pain has risen sharply around the world, with a consequent improvement in facilities for pain management in many countries. IASP®, supports the next Congress of EFIC, which will bring further benefits educationally, scientifically and socially to all member countries.
