EFNS Society Background
General Information
EFNS Society Mission is:
- To advance the development of neurology as an independent speciality caring for all patients with a disease of the nervous system
- To support that these services become available to all Europeans
- To support research and dissemination of research results throughout Europe
- To organise and support neurological teaching at the pregraduate as well as the postgraduate level throughout Europe
- To handle the current political issues in European neurology on behalf of its members
The EFNS provides:
- Annual European neurology conferences
- Other meetings and workshops in clinical neurology and related neurosciences throughout Europe
- Postgraduate teaching courses in neurology
- A central network linking all national neurological societies and all European departments of neurology
- Guidelines for diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitational and social programmes in clinical neurology
- Scientist panels and conferences covering all subfields of neurology and with representation from all European countries
- An international scientific journal
- A quarterly newsletter to all members
Individual members:
- receive an official certificate of membership
- receive the European Journal of Neurology
- are listed in the EFNS Society Directory
- receive a copy of the EFNS Society Directory free of charge
- are put on the mailing list of the EFNS Society Newsletter which is published quarterly
- receive full information about EFNS neurology conferences
- are entitled to participate in EFNS neurology congresses at registration fee for members
Categories of Membership
Ordinary Members
All members of affiliated European national neurological societies are automatically members of the EFNS.
Individual Members
Qualified individuals from non-European countries, from European countries without an affiliated national neurological society or from European countries with a numerical restriction on membership in the national neurological society may apply for individual membership.
Honorary Members
Honorary members are elected by a majority vote of the Council of Delegates upon proposal by at least two Council members.
Organisation
The EFNS society is governed by a Council to which each member society appoints one delegate. For further info about the current Council Members, please click this topic in the menu located to the left.
