EFNS Headoffice

Welcome Message

Dear Colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the forthcoming 10th Congress of the European Federation of Neurological Societies – EFNS, which will take place in Glasgow, UK, September 2-5, 2006.

The growing success of the EFNS congresses and the increasing number of its participants make the Glasgow meeting the leading European Neurological event of 2006.

Scotland 's reputation for warm hospitality and friendship as well as its historical and cultural background make it an ideal place for an EFNS congress. The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow with its world class facilities will host the largest 2006 European Neurological Congress. Glasgow, one of the most exciting cities to visit in the northern part of Europe, will be the background for the fascinating social and cultural programme that has been prepared to make you enjoy your stay in Scotland.

The scientific programme follows the lines of our previous congresses. Teaching courses, covering the main topics of neurology will start up the scientific programme. Also, this year we will have as a special event a teaching course free of charge dedicated to “How do I examine…? ”. Do make sure not to miss it!

On each day, three parallel main sessions, followed by innovative free communications will cover the major fields of interest.

The “Tournament for Young Neurologists” will take place in two parallel sessions devoted to “clinical neurology” and to “ basic neurological sciences”. This tournament is a unique opportunity for young neurologists to present and discuss their personal scientific contribution in front of a jury of major European experts. The Uschi Tschabitscher Prize will be awarded to the winners of each group.

16 focused workshops on specialized topics will allow to have a stimulating interaction between speakers and their audience. During the poster sessions the best presentations will be upgraded by on-site discussion with the chairperson. Finally, the scientific programme will be completed by very interesting satellite symposia.

The EFNS will be offering 200 bursaries consisting of free registration and four nights hotel accommodation to neurologists under the age of 35 who are not in a permanent position and whose abstracts have been accepted and rated as "the best ones".

We hope you will be able to join us for this exciting event and are looking forward to meeting you in the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of Glasgow.

Chair, Congress Programme Committee
