greetings

Dear Colleagues

On behalf of the Organizing Committee we are pleased to announce the First International Congress on Epilepsy, Mind & Brain which will take place in Prague, Czech Republic on March 02-04, 2007.

Affective and cognitive disturbances affect the majority of patients suffering from epilepsy. Nevertheless, they are frequently ignored and under-treated. The main topics of this congress will include the prevalence and diagnostic methods of depression, cognitive disturbances, psychic experiences and behavioural problems in persons with epilepsy (PWE). We shall focus on treatment options of those disturbances and the impact of antidepressants, neuroleptics and cognitive drugs on PWE, as well as to the impact of antiepileptic drugs (AED) on attention, cognition, mood and behaviour. Positive and negative cognitive and behavioural aspects of treatment with AED will be discussed, as well as the use of AED in affective disorders, pain and migraine. The impact of electrical neuromodulation and vagal nerve stimulation will be discussed as well as that of epilepsy and AED on the developing brain.

A further important but largely unexplored field are sexual disturbances in PWE. The effects of drugs on sexual life and the treatment of sexual dysfunctions in PWE will be highlighted.

Finally, the borderline between epileptology and philosophy, religion, art and history will open this congress also to non-specialists.

We very much hope you will join us in the magnificent city of Prague in March 2007 for what promises to be a most stimulating and scientifically productive congress.

Yours sincerely,
Professor Ivan Rektor – Co-Chairman
Professor Amos D. Korczyn – Co-Chairman
