valenciaDear Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to the 23rd Annual Meeting of European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID), to be held May 18 - 20, 2005 in Valencia, Spain. I truly believe ESPID 2005 will be a successful and memorable link in the long and ever growing chain of ESPID meetings.

This will be the second ESPID meeting in Spain. The scientific committee, composed of ID pediatricians and doctors from all over Spain, is actively working to provide an attractive programme for the ESPID members and participants, and to encourage new membership.

This year's main topic is vaccines. It is our intention to discuss the advances in vaccinology and to debate their conflicting points. There will also be other infectious diseases topics in the meeting. We aim to encourage the attendance of the "Meet the Professor" workshops, and welcome new advances in infectious diseases for posters and free papers presentations.

Our Latin personality encourages a passionate and joyful frame for the scientific and social programs, as well as for free time activities. We plan to provide you with great memories of an exciting and unforgettable meeting.

In Valencia the architecture ranges from old Roman monuments to the very modern. The recently inaugurated City of the Sciences, where the biggest Oceanographic Park in Europe has been built, is not to be missed. Even punting in La Albufera, the Lake of Valencia, deserves an evening.

The expected weather in Valencia will be wonderful, with an average of 17-20°C, and only a remote possibility of dull days.

If you enjoy eating, Valencia is the place to visit. An important touristic and commercial city, Valencia is full of restaurants. Taste the "queen of the dishes" - the paella, which deserves special mention, and do not forget to try our tapas and nice red wines.

The Palacio de Congresos (Congress Hall) has plenty of natural light, and is considered one of the best centers of Europe, and is one of the most prominent architectural designs from the architect, Sir Norman Foster.

I am confident that we will all enjoy our ESPID meeting in Valencia.

Welcome to Valencia,

Javier Diez-Domingo
Chairman of the Local Scientific Committee
