Nestled in the Three Countries of Germany, France and Switzerland, Basel is a city full of surprises. The city canton with roughly 190,000 inhabitants and a 2000-year history is located on the bend of the Rhine on the borders with France and Germany.

Basel is also the seat of the pharmaceutical industry and a trade fair and congress centre. The oldest fair has been held here since 1471: the Autumn Fair. Travel in and around the city is also easy for its guests. For the public transport systems bring you quickly to any desired destination – and free of charge with the Mobility Ticket. The beautiful landscapes of the surrounding region with which Basel has close ties are also within easy reach. The Jura, the Vosges and the Black Forest are little more than a stone's throw away.

Located in the heart of the historical old town. A visit to the museum is certainly worthwhile to see beautiful period furnishings, such as the Innsbrucker Court Pharmacy and its laboratories.

On display is a remarkable collection of drugs and traditional remedies as used in the past, showing older approaches to medicine. Among the many other interesting things to see at the museum is a fully equipped alchemists laboratory, antique microscopes, and a celebrated collection of ceramic apothecary jars.

The museum houses one of the world's finest collections of objects relating to pharmaceutical history. The building itself,  in which the museum is situated is of historical interest; a house known as "Zum vorderen Sessel" (meaning "the front seat"), which was once frequented by famous people such as Erasmus of Rotterdam and Paracelsus.

The Herbarium, fitted out as an old Basel pharmacy, serves as the museum shop and provides the opportunity to shop as you might have done in the past.
