PANORAMIC VISIT TO PORTO WITH PORTO WINE TASTING
THURSDAY, MAY 3, 2007
09:00 – 12:00
Half-day tour of Portugal’s second largest city in a convertible bus. Built on the right bank of the Douro River, Porto is a colourful city with narrow, old streets going down towards the river to large and modern roads. Many bridges of differing architectural designs span the Douro into Porto, such as the Dona Maria Bridge by Eiffel. Visit a Port Wine Cellar with wine tasting. The tour explains about the production and warehousing of one of the world’s most famous wines.
PORTO HISTORICAL CENTRE
FRIDAY, MAY 4, 2007
09:00 – 12:00
Discover the historical centre of Porto, UNESCO World Heritage.
The tour will start at the Cais da Ribeira, where you can walk near the Douro River.
Admire the magnificent view of Ribeira, during the trip on the funicular elevator, to the famous Santa Catarina Street, an area without traffic and with a lot of shops. The walking tour will take you to the heart of the city, a 19th century tangle of lanes tumbling down to the river and its historic buildings: the imposing 12th Century Sé Cathedral, the baroque Clerigos Tower, the Church of St. Francis (Igreja de São Francisco), one of the most amazing and beautiful churches in Portugal with dazzling gilt work extending from floor to ceiling.
