GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT PRAGUEWith a population of 1, 156 000, the City is spread out over nine hills between which the river Vltava flows for 30km within the city. Czech is the official language but Slovak is also commonly understood. The majority of Czechs are agnostic or Catholic. Prague represents a unique collection of historical monuments dominated by Prague Castle. The historical core of the city is situated on both banks of the Vltava River and consists of 6 parts: Stare Mesto (Old Town), Josefov (the preserved part of the former Jewish Town and today a part of the Old Town), Nove Mesto (New Town), Mala Strana (Lesser Town), Hradcany and Vysehrad.
Getting AroundTraveling by city transport is only possible with a valid ticket. Passengers must obtain their tickets before boarding the vehicle or entering the Metro system. Tickets can be bought at selected Metro stations, Dopravni Podnik Information Center, Hotels, newsstands, department stores or at the slot machine located at Metro station.Tourist tickets are available and valid for all city transport facilities.
