Purpose: The evaluation of the effect of 0,005% latanoprost onto retinal blood flow with colour Doppler ultrasounography.
Material and method: We recieved 12 eyes of 7 women (43,77%) and 18 eyes of 9 men (52,33%), total 30 eyes of 16 patients who have primary open-angle glaucoma and capsuler glaucoma into our study. The mean age of the patients was 68,47±7,54 years. All the patients did not use any medication for their glaucoma before. We evaluated their retinal blood flow with colour Doppler ultrasuonography and tension ocular with Goldmann applanation tonomery before treating to 0,005% latanoprost. Then we gave 0,005% latanoprost drop one time a day along 3 days. After this process we made these evaluations again.
Results: When premedication ophthalmic arters’ end diastolic flow (Vd),mean flow (Vm),end systolic flow (Vp),pulsatil index (PI), resistance index (RI) were sequently 6,79±0,52, 14,32±1,03, 29,15±1,91, 1,55±0,06, 0,76±0,01; postmedication ophthalmic arters’ Vd,Vm,Vp,PI,RI were sequently 7,21±0,51, 14,67±1,03, 41,16±10,58, 1,65±0,07, 0,76±0,01. There was no statistically significant between premedication and post medication blood flow of ophthalmic arters. When premedication central retinal arters’ Vd,Vm,Vp,PI,RI were sequently 3,1±0,21, 5,53±0,27, 9,68±0,49, 1,21±0,07, 0,76±0,06; postmedication central retinal arters’ Vd,Vm,Vp,PI,RI were sequently 2,61±0,19, 5,15±0,23, 9,32±0,37,1,33±0,08, 0,71±0,02. There was no statistically significant between premedication and post medication blood flow of central retinal arters. When premedication mean tension ocular was 22,97±0,49 mmHg, postmedication mean tension ocular was 15,23±0,84 mmHg. There was statistically significant degrease for tension ocular.
Conclusion: 0,005% latanoprost did not effect the retinal blood flow.
Key words: 0,005% latanoprost, retinal blood flow
