The purpose: The study of efficiency of application brinzolamide at treatment of the patients with primary open-angle glaucoma.

Materials and methods: We observed 35 patients (57 eyes) with decompensated primary open-angel glaucoma. The measurement of IOP was made 1,  2 and 24 hours after single drop instillation of brinzolamide, and also weekly during three month researches at application of brinzolamide 2 times per day.

Results and discussion: The initial level of IOP was 26,17±2,6 mmHg. After a  hour the IOP decreased by 19,79 %, after 2 hours by 26,78 %, after 24 hours by 15,41 % from an initial level of IOP. Brinzolamide was applicated during 12 weeks  2 times per day. The decrease of  IOP was approximately identical and was 26,62 % over initial level.

The side-effects were observed at 6 (15 %) patients. The burning and foreign body sensation, within 5-10 minutes after instillation, were most frequent (12,5%) among topical side-effects. At one patient we received fibrinozno-plastic iridocyclitis after single instillation of brinzolamide. Iridocyclitis was cured after 4 days of standard therapy.

Conclusions: This investigation has shown, that brinzolamide has marked  hypotensive effect. Its application 2 times per day allows to control IOP.
