Purpose: to study the effect
of proxocarpin (hybrid β 1,2 – α 1
- adrenergic-blocker proxodolol 1
% and pilocarpin 1 %) on intraocular pressure (IOP),
outflow facility and pupil size in
rabbits.
Methods: electronic tonography
and pupillometry were used on 32
grey Shinshilla rabbits.
Results: proxocarpin is well
endured in rabbits; proxocarpin has more marked and long hypotensive effect, than each agent: IOP lowering efficacy of proxocarpin by increasing of outflow
facility, while proxodolol hypotensive effect is explained by depression of
aqueous humor production.
Discussion: the combined agent
proxocarpin caused an additional hypotensive effect. Proxocarpine miotic effect is a little bit weaker
than with instillation of pilocarpine.
Conclusions: due to the
experimental data and positive results of the clinical useing of combined instillation β
adrenergic-blocker and cholinomimetics it’s possible to used proxocarpin to clinical study as IOP
lowering means.
