Purpose: to investigate the using of Proxophelini (fixed combination of β1,2 α1 adrenoblocker Proxodololi 1 % and α1 agonist Clophelini hydrochloridi 0,25 %) by patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) with normal or high blood pressure, also if there is tachiphylaxia to treatment with timololi 0,25 % and Pilocarpini hydrochloridi 1 % twice a daily.

Methods: 30 patients with POAG, who were treated with Timololi and Pilocarpini and had IOP > 22 mm. Hg., received Proxophelini twice a daily, were tested for intraocular pressure (IOP), outflow facility, visual field. Visual field testing had been done by computerized, automated perimetry.

Results: During the treatment with Proxophelini IOP were 16,3, 15,9 and 16,1 mm. Hg. after 3, 6 and 12 months, respectively, by 85 %, 75 % and 70 % patients. Outflow facility increased by 33 % in comparison to Timolol with Pilocarpin.

Automated, computerized perimetry showed the decrease of visual field defects in comparison to Timolol and Pilocarpin.

Blood pressure and pulse during the treatment with Proxophelini were statistically significant not change.

Conclusions: Glaucoma patients prefer the treatment with Proxophelin, because the quality of glaucoma patient's life is in general good, when they are treated without miotic agents.
