Purpose: To evaluate the effect and results of viscogoniotomy in eyes with congenital glaucoma.
Patients and Methods: 24 eyes of 15 patients with a mean age 6.2 months (ranging from 1 to 15 months) were treated with standart goniotomy (Group I) and 27 eyes of 18 patients with a mean age 5.5 months (ranging from 1 to 14 months) were treated with viscogoniotomy (Group II). The mean follow-up period was 5.2 years in Group I and 4.6 years in Group II. Student-t test was used for the statistical analysis.
Results: Mean intraocular pressure was statistically lower in both groups postoperatively but it was significantly lower in Group II than Group I. The complication rate was statistically higher in Group I.
Conclusion: Use of viscoelastic substances enhance the success rate of goniotomy and decrease the rates of complications.
