AIM : To determine reversibility of the changes of the optic disc in primary open angle glaucoma after trabeculectomy

MATERIALS AND METHODS : Heidelberg Retina Tomograph II and Moorfileds regression classification has been used to analyse optic disc caracteristics  in 20 POAG patients before and after trabeculectomy .  We analysed disc area, cup area, rim area, cup/disc area ratio, rim/disc area ratio, cup volume, mean cup depth and max contour elevation and regression preoperatively and during early and late postoperative period RESULTS. We found the corelation between the values of the preoperative IOP and postoperative regresion of the cup volume. Our measurements showed disc area enlargement (up to 20%), cup area regression (up to 32%),  rim area enlargement (up to 38 %) and cup volume regression  during early postoperative period. Also, there is the difference in cup volume regression regarding preoperative cup dimensions. HRT II results before and after trebaculectomy were compared to Octopus results, too.

CONCLUSION : Our analysis confirmed regression of the cup/disc area relation and enlargement of the neuroretinal rim area in early postoperative period, which we found to be in corelation to IOP regression. In late postoperative period, these characteristics returned close to their preoperative values.
