18, 1-50139 Florence, Italy, sponsors an international prize in
memory of Enrico Greppi, pioneer and expert in the study of headache.
- The price is awarded every two years to an unpublished paper
dealing with clinical, physiopathological and therapeutic aspects
of headache. Competing papers must be written in English and should
not exceed 20 pages including the abstract, bibliography, tables
and figures.
- There is no age limit for participating in the Enrico Greppi
International Award.
- All researchers in the headache field, regardless of nationality,
may compete for the award. Members of the Boards of Directors
of the Italian Society for the Study of Headaches (SISC) or European
Headache Federation (EHF) may also participate, providing that
they are not serving on the selection committee and did not participate
in the nomination of the selection committee.
- The award recipient is invited to present the winning paper
as the Enrico Greppi International Award Lecture at the European
Headache Federation Congress.
- The prize is 2500 euro, which will be received at the time of
the congress along with a certificate signed by all members of
the selection committee. If the winner is not present at the congress,
the prize money will be forwarded to the recipient by bank transfer.
- The competition will be announced in The Journal of Headache
and Pain and possibly in other scientific journals. The Journal
of Headache and Pain will then publish ex off?cio the winning
manuscript with the list of members of the selection committee.
The article will be published by The Journal of Headache and Pain
within one year of the presentation of the award.
- The selection committee will be composed of the President pro
tempore of SISC who will preside, the EHF Research Committee representative,
the First Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Headache and Pain,
or his chosen delegate, 1 member of the SISC Board of Directors
and 2 members chosen from among Italian and/or foreign experts
in the headache field and nominated by the SISC Board of Directors.
In the event that the President of SISC cannot preside, the oldest
member of the committee will assume the presiding role. The SISC
Board of Directors will also nominate 5 other members who will
serve as substitutes should one or more committee members decide
to resign. The papers will be judged by each committee member
individually on a scale of 0 - 10. Each committee member is responsible
for sending his scores to the President of the committee. The
scores of at least 4 committee members are necessary to determine
a winner. The winning paper must receive an average score of not

a double value. Should a tie persist, there will be a random drawing
in the presence of a notary. No prize will be awarded if less

of at least 6. In this case the award money will then be deposited
in the prize funds.
- The competing works must be postmarked or e-mailed to the President
of SISC no later than 17 February 2004, 120 days prior to the
opening session of the European Headache Federation Congress.
