International Board of Governors Meeting
May 30- June 4, 2008
Dear Friend,
I am honored to invite you to the 71st Meeting of the International Board of Governors and Commencement Ceremonies of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which will take place from May 30th through June 4th, 2008. This is a very special year, as we celebrate both the 60th birthday of the State of Israel, as well as the 90th anniversary of laying the cornerstones of the Hebrew University.
The week of commencement and Board of Governors meetings and events is always an exciting time at the University, with academic seminars, festive celebrations, workshops, study groups, and special ceremonies – all designed to familiarize you with the newest people, research, and achievements of the Hebrew University. However, thanks to Israel’s special 60th birthday and Hebrew University’s 90th milestone, this year promises to be more spectacular than ever. Our focus this year will be on the vast and important contributions made by the Hebrew University to the State of Israel: How has the Hebrew University and those within it helped shape and influence the State? A very special addition to this year will be an international conference at the Truman Institute on the 29th and 30th of May marking 40 years of activity. This will be followed by an international meeting with foreign ministers from neighboring countries including Egypt, Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority.
In addition to seminars and workshops, we will also celebrate -- after all, we do have a lot about which to be proud! We will be joined in our celebrations by many public Israeli and international figures – from the President of the State of Israel Shimon Peres to Members of Knesset, cultural figures, prominent intellectuals, foreign ambassadors, and more. The celebrations will begin at an opening party on the Edmond J. Safra campus, continue with a performance of the Bat Sheva dance troupe under the stars at our beautiful amphitheater, and we will also enjoy a wonderful closing party at the Scopus Student Village.
We look forward to seeing you this spring in Jerusalem!
Sincerely,
Carmi Gillon
