La Ruelle, known in English as Fortification Lane, is a landmark in Montreal and an important part of Montréal's history. It dates back to the seventeen hundreds when the first French Settlers erected a fortress around their settlement originally called Ville Marie.
The space contains a magnificent reflecting pool, a water fountain with a marble staircase and an 18th century sculpture of the mythological goddess, Amphitrite.
The location highlights the European atmosphere of Montréal through a re-creation of Old Montréal’s historic charm and café terrace ambience.
Façades of period architecture, wrought iron fence sections, gates, stucco columns, marble courtyard, working fountain, gazebo, trellis walls woven with greenery and ivy, flower carts, flower boxes brimming with fresh flowers, wrought iron café tables and park benches for seating, poster-ed street columns and old-style street lamps decorate the room. Ficus trees, ferns, ivy, green plants and fresh flowers abound.
