WELCOME
Dear Colleague,
Over the past years, anaesthesiologists in most countries have developed
a major interest in intravenous anaesthesia. This has been prompted
in many cases by the availability of improved drugs such as propofol
and remifentanil and the more widespread introduction of target
controlled infusion systems. These factors, together with improved
education, have led to growing awareness of value of these new
techniques for routine anaesthesia and also to the rapidly evolving
area of conscious sedation.
Several National and International Societies for Intravenous Anaesthesia
have been established and this First World Congress of Intravenous
Anaesthesia represents the desire to develop a forum to coordinate,
facilitate and provide high quality and educational presentations in
this emerging area of anaesthetic practice.
In addition, the Congress aims to promote the highest quality of
education for those involved with all drugs administered intravenously,
and assist the introduction of new techniques into the standard curricula
and examination systems of individual countries.
We welcome you to attend what we hope to be an exciting and
educational programme, to meet others with similar interests, discuss
problems with world experts in this area and enjoy the social aspects
of the programme.
