Junior Investigator Awards The International Society for Bipolar Disorder (ISBD) recognizes the vital role of developing the next generation of leaders in the field of bipolar disorder and will offer 4 awards for original research submissions. These awards are open to psychiatric trainees, postgraduate students and junior faculty up to the Assistant Professor rank from around the world, independent of age, nationality, sex or race. The awards will be presented in conjunction with the 2nd Biennial Conference of the ISBD in Edinburgh, Scotland, August 2-4, 2006.

The awards will consist of

  • coach air travel
  • lodging
  • a cash stipend in the amount of $500 US
  • plaque
  • waived registration fees at the 2nd Biennial Conference of the ISBD in Edinburgh, Scotland, August 2-4, 2006.

Awards will be based on the originality of the content, as well as the significance of the findings reported, and will be evaluated by an international scientific panel under the auspices of the ISBD. Please note, all panel decisions will be final.

Award Recipients must commit to present their work as an oral paper presentation at the 2006 Conference and to prepare their manuscripts for submission and possible publication to the Bipolar Disorders Journal.

In order to promote research interest in bipolar disorders and provide opportunities for those in developing countries, at least two of the four awards are offered for those from developing countries.

Deadline for Submissions
Applications must be received no later than April 30th 2006. Award Recipients will be notified by June 1st 2006 and announcement held until the awards ceremony at the Edinburgh Meeting, August 2nd-4th 2006.

A 2 week extension will be allowed for submission of the manuscript only to all applicants who complete the online application and submit all other required documents below by the April 30th deadline

The Paper:
The topics of the papers presented must address aspects of bipolar disorder, and applicants must show a potential for long term commitment and contributions to the field of bipolar disorder.

The manuscript should be based on original work that has not been published elsewhere. The paper format could be submitted as a full-length regular article (5000 words) or as a brief-report (maximum 2000 words) suitable for publications in the Bipolar Disorders Journal.

1) A completed Application Form
2) A brief letter of support from sponsor
3) An Abstract of no more than 300 words.
4) An updated Curriculum Vitae (2 page max) including a list of publications if present.
5) A brief (250 word) description of the nominee’s current activities, career goals, and a rational in support of the nomination.
6) An original, unpublished manuscript addressing some aspect of bipolar disorder
