About Mexico & Cancun

MEXICO is ……..
One of the richest cultural and biological regions in the world. In Mexico, it is possible to distinguish 26 native indian regions; and it is the fourth most biodiverse country in the world, only behind Brazil, Colombia and Indonesia. One out of ten species resides in Mexico, which occupies the third place in floral diversity above Australia, India or the whole of Europe. This diversity can also be found in the food, second to none in the world. Mexico City, a vibrant modern city, with more than 20 million people inhabiting the whole Valley of Mexico, is an excellent departing point towards any region in the country, whether you are interested in ancient or modern culture, or in ecological tourism.

Mexico City itself has the Museum of Anthropology and History, one of the finest in the world, not only for its contents but also for its museographic concept. In downtown Mexico City, at the Zocalo, one can admire the cathedral and sumptuous buildings of the Spanish colonial era, together with the diggings of the magnificent Templo Mayor of the Aztec culture, or the architecture of the first half of the twentieth century. The Reforma Avenue, built on a grand Parisian style, and Insurgentes Avenue, traversing the city from north to south, full with shops and great restaurants, are at the hub of Mexican life. Half an hour from Mexico City, one can visit the impressive ruins of Teotihuacan, with the world-famous Temples of the Sun and of the Moon; and within half a day's ride one can arrive in beautiful San Miguel de Allende, an artists retreat, or visit the quaint colonial city of Guanajuato, once home of some of the richest mines in the world.

CANCUN has …….
Something special for everyone and for every taste: exciting water sports, turquoise waters, beautiful beaches and a paradise for sun lovers. In addition to this, it offers magnificent hotels, malls, golf courses, hundreds of restaurants featuring cuisine from all over the world and vibrant nightlife. It is also a strategic place to start exploring the Mexican Caribbean and the Yucatán Peninsula. Within a couple hours drive towards the south on the Mayan Riviera, one can visit Coba, one of the largest Mayan cities still engulfed by the jungle; or Tulum, a small and elegant city overlooking the Caribbean ocean. Moreover, a two-hour drive west allows you to visit Chichen-Itza, possibly the best ancient Mexican ruins, for their magnificence, fine work and preservation; and two more hours shall allow you to reach Merida, a fine tropical city of the Spanish colonial times, from where one can visit the Puc Route, an impressive drive covering several Mayan cities.

Swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving in the pristine turquoise Caribbean waters is world-class; and all sorts of ecological hikes are available at the surrounding lagoons and jungles. Visiting the romantic setting of nearby Isla Mujeres is a must.
