Seville City Tour
Friday, March 1, 2002

We start the visit in the Santa Cruz quarter with its balconies and flowers and peaceful interior patios which inspired the well-known Zorrilla to write "Don Juan Tenorio". Walk along Calle Judería, Callejón del Agua, Plaza Doña Elvira and Plaza Santa Cruz and see the Hospital de los Venerables, the convent of San José and Murillo gardens. Its streets intertwine with the walls and gates of the Reales Alcazares. The cathedral with the Giralda tower marks the start of the eastern edge of the quarter. In this thick maze of streets you will also see the Archivo de Indias and the old port with the Torre del Oro and the Hospital de la Caridad.

Take a stroll around the San Bartolomé quarter, which was the most authentic and popular Jewish quarter of Seville. And after visiting the cathedral, one of the largest in Christendom, and the Reales Alcazares, an impressive series of buildings built in the 10th century enclosed by a wall, you can restore your energy going on a tapa tour, the custom of strolling from one eatery to another and enjoying delicious morsels of food. It is not just a pleasure, but an authentic ritual!

Ancient City of Carmona
Saturday, March 2, 2002

Drive to Carmona (30 km from Seville). This unspoiled Andalusian town of Roman and Moorish origin is well worth a visit to enjoy its wealth of Mudejar and Renaissance churches and its streets of whitewashed houses of clear Moorish influence.

Visit the headquarters of the "Ruta Betica-Romana", which traces the ancient Roman route through eight Andalusian townships in the provinces of Seville, Cordoba and Cadiz. Visit Carmona's most splendid monument - its Roman Necropolis (one of the largest in Spain), and enjoy the Puerta de Sevilla gate, the San Pedro fortress and the town museum.

Both tours depart from the Hotel Alfonso XIII at 09.00, returning at approximately 13.00.
