Dear Colleague, Following the successful 1st and 2nd International Conference on Stroke which took place in Geneva, Switzerland in 1991 and 1993, the 3rd International Conference on Stroke which took place in Prague, Czech Republic, October 1995, and the 4th International Conference on Stroke and 1st Conference of the Mediterranean Stroke Society which took place in Marrakech, Morocco, we are starting preparations for the 5th International Conference on Stroke and 2nd Conference of the Mediterranean Stroke Society scheduled to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, March 21 - 24, 2001. The theme of the Conference will place emphasis on "Heart and Brain", as well as other current topics of Stroke. We are sure that this Conference will provide you with the opportunity to keep pace with the latest developments in this field. Istanbul is an exciting city where East meets West - the bridge between Europe and Asia - with a thriving metropolis of 12 million people. Over the course of millenia, Istanbul was the seat of three great empires - Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman where peoples of many religions and cultures came together. Modern amenities, the splendours of the Ottoman past and the traditions of Turkish hospitality combine to make Istanbul a perfect meeting city.
