Prague CastleThe most important place in Prague set in one of the most beautiful areas in Europe. Hradcany is not only the location of the world famous Prague Castle but also of numerous palaces, churches and monuments.A visit to Hradcany should start on Strahov, (tram station Pohorelec, n.22, 23) where you will find the unique libraries of Strahov Monastery. Continue to Loreta Square where the Czernin Palace and Loreta church are located. Your steps will then lead you to Hradcany Square, which is the main entrance to Prague Castle. In the centre of the square stands a pest column with a statue of the Virgin Mary. The square is surrounded by several palaces : Stenberg – an example of Renaissance architecture, Toscana – an early Baroque building, Martinic with its portal from the 16th century and the Renaissance Archbishop's Palace with its rococo façade. There you will find the First Castle Courtyard with its 1614 Matthias Gateway, the location of the much photographed Castle Guards and the beginning of your vist to Prague Castle. The best is yet to come: St. Vitus Cathedral, the Knights court and Vladislav hall, St. George Basilica - one of the oldest in the city and of course the Golden Lane , where during the Middle Ages alchemists would try to invent gold!
