DOCE DESAFIO PROGRAM: THE IMPACT ON LIFE QUALITY ACCORDING THE DIABETICS IN ATTENDANCE

Introduction: LifeQuality (LQ) can be appraised taking into consideration different approaches.An education diabetes program should evaluate interferences on LQ. The aim wastoevaluate reported changes on LQ of diabetics attendanding Doce Desafio (SweetChallenge) Program.
Methods: Sample:37 diabetics, 86% type2, age 14-72 (55+13), diagnostic 0-30 (9+8)years ago; ´n´ of classes attended: 11-176 (average 25). They all answered aself-report questionnaire (19 open questions + 35 subjective questions)evaluating the influence of the Program in people´s LQ. Most data was statistically analysed by pondered attribution where thefinal issue shows the statement of that aspect in a scale of -1(decreased alot) to +1(improve a lot).
Results: Aspectsshowed improvement. It was referred an improve of 50,7% in their acceptance ofdiabetic condition, and average of 54,3% in improvement on LQ. Most increased:Well-being and high spirits (0.68); Effort for healthy nutrition (0.60);Attention to self-care (0.61); practice of physical exercises(0.65); Moderatedand self-regulated life style (0.61); Knowledge on diabetes (0.66);Comprehension outcome of bad control (0.63); Expectation for a long life withquality (0.63); Determination for long and quality life (0.68); LQ over all (0.60).Aspects which showed little change were: Confidence on the veracity of thenews; Anxiety level on self-care; Effort to overcome treatment costs.Decreased: Complaints about being a diabetic person (-0.29). From all, 51%mentioned the awareness and self-care acquaintance as an essential contributionof the program to them as diabetics.
Conclusion: It was effective to improve their life quality.
